Types of Metal Coatings & Thermal Spray Applications
Applications & Types of Metal Coatings
Montana Metalizing offers the most environmentally friendly, productive, and economical form of galvanizing and corrosion prevention available today.
Anti-Corrosion & Anti-Slip Metal Coatings
Aluminum Non-Skid
Rated as an aircraft-grade coating, weighing only 1/3 lb./SF, the Aluminum Non-Skid is a dual-purposed coating - delivering superior corrosion & wear protection, while supplying safety-conscious, military-grade grip for all traction needs.
Bond Strength: 2,000 PSI
Applications:
- Pickup Truck Bedliners
- Navy Aircraft Carrier Flight Deck
- Pedestrian Traffic, Personal Safety & Wear Resistance on:
- Aircraft & Helicopter skids, steps and handles
- Oil rig & Refinery walkways / decks
- Ship decks & Boat Docks
- Sidewalk & Concrete areas
- Scaffolding & Ladder rungs
- Shipping & Receiving docks, Forklift loading ramps
- Aircraft & Vehicle ramps, landing & loading areas
- Aircraft Tug vehicle surfaces
- and all other places where slip, trip & fall safety is a concern
Aluminum
Providing excellent corrosion protection, this 99.5% aluminum coating is extremely durable and provides an additional layer of corrosion protection with the oxidation layer created by the .05% residual elements. The higher melting temperature of aluminum affords this coating durability and prolonged life-cycle in atmospheres & applications that exceed 1,200°F.
Bond Strength: 1,500 PSI
Applications:
- Refinery Spools
- Automotive Exhaust
- Oil & Gas Pipelines
- Holding Tanks
- Vessels & Valves
- Shoreline & Splash zone areas
- Boating
- Breakwater & Submerged Piles
- CUI applications (CUI = Corrosion Under Insulation)
- any surface needing an utmost durable coating, which also entirely protects against all forms of corrosion and oxidation.
Zinc (Galvanizing)
Acting as a sacrificial coating protection for any concrete, iron or steel substrate or surface, zinc metalizing spray is your single-application solution to prevent deterioration, corrosion, oxidation and dissolution of your assets.
Bond Strength: 500+ PSI
Applications:
- Structural steel and iron (pipe spools)
- Cooling Tower Water Basins
- Wind & Transmission Towers
- Foundation Piles
- I-Beams
- Playground equipment
- Municipal City Transit structures
- Signage
- Bridges
- Dam & Waterway components
- Refinery pipe and tubing, Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI)
- Vessels & Valves
- Storm & Sewer Drains
Metalizing with galvanizing zinc spray is the safest and most effective galvanizing method for any substrate in a corrosion-rich environment, but also the most effective and long-lasting approved-repair-method for damaged hot-dip galvanized components.
Arc spraying a zinc galvanizing layer, compared to hot-dip, yields a thicker (more durable), pure and porous coating. Iron from the substrate component tends to be absorbed over time into a hot-dip zinc galvanizing layer; such a tendency is avoided by metalizing a with a molten zinc galvanizing spray. The porous zinc layer yielded by metalized zinc is an ideal foundation for a sealer, which extends the galvanic corrosion protection period beyond 50 years.
Zinc/Aluminum (85/15)
Corrosion-preventing coating that maintains the sacrificial corrosion protection advantages of both materials. In example, aluminum decreases the dissolution rate of the sacrificial zinc coating, which increases the life-cycle of the protection provided by the zinc. The fine pores of 85/15 allow the coating to provide unsealed protection at coating thicknesses thinner than the 100% zinc coating. Aluminum’s properties give an 85/15 coating exceptional resistance to sodium chloride (saltwater) and all corrosive marine atmospheres.
Bond Strength: 750 - 1,500 PSI
Applications:
- Bridges & Structural I-Beams in aqueous atmospheres
- Power & Light poles
- Submerged & Exterior Utilities
- Marine applications
- Dock plates & connectors
Architectural / Engineering Coatings
Sillicon Bronze
Copper-based with added silicone, this brilliant decorative coating eases friction when applied to surfaces like bearing faces, but has the unique appearance of lubricated bronze - also resisting corrosion and offering anti-wear properties.
Bond Strength: 5,800 PSI
Aluminum Bronze
Copper-based with added aluminum, this brilliant decorative coating maintains corrosion-preventative properties, while resisting mechanical and thermal shock.
Bond Strength: 7,000 PSI
Copper
Pure copper coating with exceptional conductivity, this brilliant decorative coating can also serve utility in the electrical, electromagnetic (EMI) shielding and radio frequency (RF) shielding industries. It maintains the corrosion resistant properties of all metal coatings.
Bond Strength: 7,000 PSI
Applications
- Decorative Coating
- Architectural Structures
- Cosmetic Repair
- Metal, Wood or Concrete
- Sculptures
- Concrete Retaining Walls
- Fencing
- Patio Furniture
- Any other surface seeking a brilliant metal appearance, with corrosion & wear resistance, shielding against the elements
Steel, Cobalt, Nickel & Stainless Steel
These hardfacing wires, with their absolute resistance to chemical and mechanical degradation, maintain toughness, durability and thermal-resistant qualities throughout a wide span of temperatures. Commonly utilized on heavy machinery wear areas.
